Senior Wellness Program Assistant

Work Hours:          Part-Time (20 hours/week), Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

The Program Assistant helps the Program Lead oversee the daily operation of the Senior Program. The Program Assistant supports with the development and coordination of recreational activities, education classes, and special events.  This role is responsible for the coordinating the Senior Nutrition Program including daily operations, monthly reporting and quarterly meetings. To assists with being a liaison between the Senior Program and all community partners.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with development and coordination of activities, events and programs for older adults implemented at Moorpark and Story Road facility.
  • Coordinate and deliver the Senior Nutrition Program following the Santa Clara County Senior Nutrition Program regulations and procedures.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers, provide guidance and direction to volunteers as needed for Senior Nutrition Program.
  • Assist with day to day operations including opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure that all participants are safe and that the center environment is free of risk for falls or other accidents.
  • Support the program lead in communicating to community partners and organizations throughout the county. May represent AACI to attend meetings, outreach events and forum with service providers, funding sources, government agencies and other as needed.
  • Attends all required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Assist with day to day operations including opening and closing procedures.
  • Serves as a receptionist, greeting participants, answering phone calls, collect payments from participants.
  • Supports community outreach events
  • program facilitation including translation services; and
  • Creates educational and marketing program materials including translation as needed
  • assists with the grant reporting process.
  • Organize and maintain necessary program and office supplies
  • Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Hospitality Management, Recreation Administration or relevant field and/or equivalent working experience preferred
  • Minimum of one year relevant work experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Willing and able to obtain Food Safety Certificate through county.
  • Excellent customer service and ability to multitask
  • Work independently and as a team member; recognize and set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Operate a computer using word processing and business software and other office equipment.
  • Observe safety principles, manage risk, and work in a safe manner.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends (occasionally).
  • Valid CA Driver’s License, vehicle for agency travel and current automobile insurance
  • Written and verbal fluency in an Asian language, Mandarin or Vietnamese preferred

Working Conditions: Work is conducted in a community center setting, walking through the center. Handles kitchen equipment and appliances.  Occasional evenings and weekend work.

Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to walk or stand for long periods of time; see to utilize a computer screen; frequently use hands; and reach with hands and arms for activities such as keyboarding and serving food. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 20 pounds.
