Founded in 1973, AACI is one of the largest community-based organizations advocating for and serving the marginalized and vulnerable ethnic communities in Santa Clara County. Our many programs address the health and well-being of the individual and advances our belief in providing care that goes beyond just health, but also provides people a sense of hope and new possibilities. Current programs include behavioral and primary health services, substance abuse prevention and treatment, center for survivors of torture, shelter and services for domestic violence and human trafficking survivors, senior center, youth programs, and community advocacy.

Position Summary:

The Program Assistant will be assigned to the Senior Wellness Program in the Department of Wellness Services. Position reports to the Program Lead and provides the following support: development, coordination and implementation of activities for older adults including ESL classes, computer/technology classes, physical and recreation activities, nutrition program, information and referral services, and health related workshops in a multicultural environment. In addition, the position may represent AACI at various community outreach events throughout the Bay Area.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with development and coordination of activities, events and programs for older adults implemented at Moorpark and Story Road facility.
  • Support Senior Wellness Program’s partnerships and collaboration internally within AACI and with community organizations serving older adults. May represent AACI at partnership meetings with service providers, funding sources, government agencies and other as needed.
  • Assist in the implementation of Santa Clara County Senior Nutrition Program at AACI with the following: adherence to Santa Clara County regulations and procedures for safe food handling; help maintain kitchen and dining area’s cleanliness; assist with food preparation/service; and organize/maintain necessary program supplies.
  • Assist with day to day operations including opening and closing procedures; maintenance, collection, submission and organization of necessary documents and records including invoices, outreach/marketing publications, community resource materials, and membership/program records.
  • Assist Program Lead with information and referral services; coordinate community outreach events (including workshops and media presentations) to senior communities, including low income and ethnic communities; program facilitation including translation services; and program evaluation and grant reporting process.
  • Develop and translate health related materials/resources.
  • Provide excellent customer service and perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in sociology, psychology, human services, business administration, hospitality management, recreation administration, public administration or a related field; OR
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university or college in sociology, psychology, human services, business administration, hospitality management, recreation administration, public administration or a related field; OR
  • TWO (2) years of responsible program administration experience in the areas of community building, social and/or human services, and programming specifically for older adults.

Knowledge of:

  • Local and/or regional resources and support services available to meet the needs of older adults.
  • Principles and practice of program development, implementation budgeting and social/health needs of older adults.
  • Principles of customer service and telephone etiquette.
  • Office administration, procedures and basic mathematics.

Ability to:

  • Multitask under time constraints in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work independently and as a team member; recognize and set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Determine and implement the appropriate course of action in emergency and/or stressful situations.
  • Operate a computer using word processing and business software and other office equipment.
  • Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Observe safety principles, manage risk, and work in a safe manner.
  • Learn the operation, policy and procedures of the Senior Wellness Program.
  • Commute to both AACI Moorpark and Story Road sites

Willingness to:

  • Work nights, weekends, or holidays when needed.

Licenses/Certificate:

  • Valid CA Driver’s License, vehicle for agency travel and current automobile insurance
  • Food Safety Certificate (Santa Clara County) preferred.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Written and verbal fluency in an Asian language, Mandarin or Vietnamese preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations, minimum of 2 years of work-related experience preferred
