Meet the resilient refugee family from Afghanistan, a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of community support. With five children ranging from 1 to 11 years old, including an eleven-year-old with a disability, their early days in a new land were fraught with challenges. The resettlement agency could only provide temporary lodging in a motel for less than four months, forcing the family of seven to squeeze into a single room.

Enter their dedicated AACI Center for Survivors of Torture (CST) Case Manager, a Dari-speaking former refugee whose unwavering dedication spanned eight months, intimately understanding and championing their struggles. This Case Manager became a steadfast pillar of support, tirelessly advocating for the family amidst countless obstacles and navigating bureaucratic complexities to secure a stable and permanent home.

The pivotal moment arrived when the family received the keys to their 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom mobile home—a triumph made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Community Services Care Team, AACI CST, the International Rescue Committee, and the Social Service ABOT program.

Today, this family of seven finally has a place they can call their own, lifting the weight of transience. Freed from the constraints of temporary housing, they can now focus on stabilizing and rebuilding their lives. The children eagerly step into classrooms, and resources are mobilized to support their disabled siblings.

This family, now brimming with newfound hope and anchored by a permanent address, embarks on a journey of rebuilding, poised for a future filled with promise and opportunity in their new homeland. Their story is a powerful narrative of resilience and community support, showcasing the transformative impact of dedicated individuals and collaborative programs.
