Overcoming Barriers to Care

Adult and Older Adult (AOA)

The  diverse adult and older adult population of Santa Clara County often face tremendous social, cultural, and emotional pressures (such as language barriers, limited understanding of mainstream resources and services, traumatic and historical experiences from war-torn countries, acculturative stress, immigration issues, and cultural isolation). They also have unique mental health needs sometimes due to an adherence to traditional ideas and methods of treatment of illnesses or “mental” problems. Addressing these needs requires culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

The Adult and Older Adult Counseling Program aims to provide these services. Our counselors provide a range of mental health services – including case management, medication support with on-site psychiatrists and registered nurses, neuropsychological assessment, and  rehabilitation counseling to promote the optimal functioning of the individual at home and in the community.

*This program requires a referral from the Mental Health Services Call Center.
