AACI Holds 2nd Annual Basketball Tournament for Youth

October 7, 2012

On July 28th, AACI held its 2nd Annual Youth Basketball Tournament in the gymnasium of Evergreen Valley College in San Jose. Sixty students from middle and high schools in east San Jose competed in a 3 on 3 tournament and 3-point shooting contest with a chance to win fun prizes. AACI provides free programming for at risk youth throughout the year and during the summer. The tournament is a highlight of the summer program which offers safe, positive activities for youth.

Fifteen volunteers helped make the event a success serving as referees, substitutes, and score keepers, among other duties. AACI Board Member, Hanley Chew, helped start this event two years ago and has been instrumental in organizing and supporting the tournament.

A special thanks to Big 5 Sporting Goods for sponsoring the basketball tournament again this year, donating basketballs and gift cards for prizes.

AACI’s summer programming is made possible by a City of San Jose Safe Summer Initiative grant.
