AACI wins “2011 People’s Choice Award” at BOOF Spotlight Festival

July 27, 2011

AACI –Center for Addiction Recovery & Empowerment (CARE) has been recognized for services that we provided for our youth prevention program, Betting on Our Future (BOOF). Betting on Our Future is a Youth Gambling Awareness Campaign sponsored by CA Friday Night Live Partnership and the Office of Problem Gambling. BOOF is a part of an established statewide media campaign to communicate the risks, signs and consequences of gambling among youth. The mission of this youth-led project is to create and execute interactive, high-energy media and live performance presentations on youth problem gambling.

Our youths organized a Youth-led Community Screening at Tully Library Community Branch in East San Jose. The purpose of this community screening is to raise awareness about problem gambling locally to help youths identify what teen problem gambling is and how it impacts young people and their community. The community screening is an important part of the project because the community screening allowed our youths to share their thoughts and perspectives around youth gambling and raise awareness in their local community.

Our youths participated in the 2011 BOOF Spotlight Festival in Anaheim, CA hosted by CA Friday Night Live Partnership and Office of Problem Gambling to showcase their high-energy Public Services Announcements (PSAs). They attended workshops on problem gambling among teens throughout the conference and learned from other youths throughout the state of CA on youth problem gambling. AACI is proud to have received recognition for the “2011 BOOF People’s Choice Award” for the PSA titled, “Bet on Help”.
