AACI Staff Member to Represent Refugees from California
July 12, 2011
Staff member of Asian American for Community Involvement (AACI), Asefeh Mazraeh, has been selected to represent refugees from California at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Congress in Washington DC in August in recognition of their 60th Anniversary. While in Washington DC, she will also attend the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Annual Consultation.
Asefeh is a case manager in the AACI Center for Survivors of Torture, which provides clinical evaluation and/or treatment and social services to survivors of political torture from all countries. In her role as a case manager, Asefeh is responsible for coordinating legal, linguistically and culturally appropriate mental health, medical and social services for clients while being fluent in Arabic and Farsi (Persian). She exemplifies how critical early and brief interventions are to get an individual on the path to wellness.
Being one of 20 invitees from across the U.S., Asefeh was chosen from a pool of over 200 nominations by a team of national reviewers. Congratulations to Asefeh, who will represent refugees from California!
