AACI Hosts Community Discussion about Domestic Violence
October 5, 2010
Special guest Assemblymember Paul Fong
WHAT:
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI) will be hosting a community discussion about the dynamics of domestic violence in Asian communities and the need for community engagement to intervene and prevent abuse.
WHEN:
Thursday, October 7, 2010 – 7:00pm to 9:00pm
WHERE:
Gordon N. Chan Community Services Center
2400 Moorpark Ave., Suite 210 San Jose, CA 95128
WHY:
Of the 11 domestic violence-related deaths in Santa Clara County last year, eight were in the Asian community. Despite the high rate of domestic violence-related deaths among Asians compared to other ethnic groups, domestic violence is still very much a silent problem in the Asian community. Throughout the year, AACI’s Domestic Violence Program, Asian Women’s Home, provides domestic violence awareness, shelter, and support for victims of abuse in Santa Clara County. This discussion will provide community members with the opportunity to learn and share ideas about how each individual can make a difference.
